Recommended age: 10+ Elif Shafak, a well-known writer of Turkish origin, has written a fascinating story about the power of fiction, a warning book: we will not be able to save our planet if our minds are no longer able to create stories
The heroine of the story, Sakiz Sardunya, meaning Flowing Bitten, is unhappy with his name, and the naughty boys in the class laugh when they hear it. Sakiz is a good student, she loves nature and wants to start an environmental protection campaign at school, but she is afraid that such a campaign would be difficult to lead because of her name. And Sakiz has another passion: he loves the library, he likes to read. And it is this passion that makes her discover in a library an enchanted globe that gathers energy around the books and whose power decreases when it is away from the books. And this enchanted globe is left in the library by two children who need it to return to a miraculous world, on the eighth continent that has never known pollution and has no plastic bottles. Together with his new friends, Sakiz reaches, thanks to winged horses, the eighth continent, which however faces a problem: the plants are drying up there because people stopped dreaming, did not give free rein to their fantasy. And Sakiz finds the solution, he urges the children there to invent stories with the help of drawings and words. And nature revives!
